2024 NOBEL CHEMISTRY PRIZE GOES TO THEORETICAL CHEMISTS

The 2024 Nobel Chemistry Prize was shared among David Baker, Demis Hassabis, and John Jumper for groundbreaking work on protein structures. David Baker received half of the award for his “computational protein design” work, which enables the creation of entirely new protein structures. The remaining half went to Hassabis and Jumper, who developed the AI-powered AlphaFold2 program. This tool can predict the 3D structure of proteins from their amino acid sequences, greatly enhancing our understanding of biological processes and aiding in the development of new treatments.

These pioneering projects open doors for designing new proteins, analyzing biological systems, and creating enzymes that mitigate environmental pollution. This Nobel honors their significant contributions to understanding life at the molecular level.
